I am a British writer and translator living in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2009 I have been working on the research and translation of classics of Brazilian Literature.

These include four books in a series called River of January – Rio de Janeiro through the eyes of its writers. The series aims to depict the life and customs in Rio de Janeiro over the last two hundred years, as portrayed in the works of its greatest writers.

I’m currently working on a number of literary projects, including a bilingual edition of two major works of the Romantic Indianist School in Brazilian literature. The project has been specially planned for distribution to the visiting delegates at the United Nations Forum on Sustainable Development (‘Rio + 20’) that will be hosted by the city in June 2012.

I first came to Brazil as an English Teacher in 1979, hired by the Cultura Inglesa to teach the First Certificate and Proficiency exams of the Cambridge Examinations Board.

In 1991 I founded a technical translation company, América Latina Traduções, of which I was executive director until 2009.
